NEW GEAR - A FAIR COPP'
TECHNICAL EDITOR: Toby Hodges
If you haven't yet antifouled your boat - then this latest product from Flag
looks exceptionally promising by combining the benefits of long-life copper
antifoulings with easily-to-appy PTFE resins These resins are becoming
increasingly popular- acting like non-stick pans the thin, slippery film
coatings claim to increase hull speed while being more environmentally
friendly by not eroding leeching poisons. Flag's pre-mixed High Performance
PTFE antifouling contains
a very fine-grade copper, which slowly degrades to a copper salt Yet it is
quick and easy to apply by spray or roller and dries rapidly [30 minutes is
claimed] even in low temperatures - so two-three coats can be applied in a
day. And apparently as it's a thin-film coating, you won't get a build up of
antifouling layers. Suitable for GRP, wood and steel, Peformance PTFE is
self-priming so can be used If its copper content helps provide longevity,
this could be a barnacle-busting- bargain! price: £64.95 per 2.5 litres.
